Mia Turns 2! Coast Trip Part1

It was so fun to celebrate Mia's 2nd birthday in true DeKorte fashion and start the festivities a whole week before the actual day. We painted nails, ate donuts with candles, got to watch cartoons in the morning, went shoe shopping, Mia wore my necklace to church and was very responsible and she got presents from family! Then on the Thursday before her birthday (which fell on a Saturday this year) we left for our five days at the Oregon Coast! On the way we stopped at Multnomah Falls, which is iconic to this part of Oregon as it is 620 feet tall and not only the tallest in Oregon, but is 2nd tallest in the US when full!

It's going to be picture over-load at this point because I could not pick my favorites. I adore these pictures. I feel they truly capture the wonder and amazement of experiencing the ocean for the first time (in her memory) from a two year old's perspective. When we first got to the coast, we went straight to the condo as it was late and past bed time. We enjoyed checking out the space we had rented and as we got settled in, we watched the sunset as we were facing the water. It was all so beautiful and relaxing. The next day we were up bright and early to go check out the beach! We knew we wanted to be outside a lot on Friday as it was supposed to be the only sunny and warm day of the trip, which ended up being true. The only regret I have is the first beach we went to, the sand was not very fine. Mia spent most of the time sitting down, getting every.single.grain of sand out from between her toes. Then she would stand up, realize the sand was back, sit down, and start the process over again. She didn't move from this task for a long, long time. Finally, we needed to get her out of this rut and so we headed for the ocean. She was quite surprised at the cool (ok, icicle!) temperature but was absolutely thrilled with the entire experience! I love seeing her so happy and it made it all worth it right then!

Can you see her face? So much happy!

Then we went back to the condo for nap time and lunch. After resting and recharging, we went back to the beach of course!
Mia, on her last day of being 1!

Late that night, after Mia had gone to bed, our best friends finally arrived! They were spending the weekend with us to celebrate Mia and Ev's birthdays. We could hardly wait for them to arrive and it was all so exciting. So when Mia woke up on her birthday (Saturday), her best little friend was there! Now the fun could really begin! :)
