What a wonderful season this was for Brad and I. These last few Christmases have all been beautiful as we focused on the birth of our Savior but they were starting to lack a certain...magic. Well, whatever it was that was slipping away from us came bounding back a hundred fold as we experienced Christmas through Amelia's eyes. She soaked it all up, seeming to love every minute. We constantly sang carols to her. We let her touch the Christmas tree and told her about each ornament. We went to see Santa where she so sweetly looked up at him and then gave his (luckily, very real) beard a yank to be proud of. We let her experience the lights and excitement of the season. It was....perfect.
Since we switch off years every other at each parent's house, this year was Lewis year. So we went over for the week and spent time with Grandma and Grandpa Lewis. We painted ceramic ornaments and watched the movie Epic. We fried up a turkey and just had a lot of fun chatting and hanging out. When we woke up in the morning, Santa had brought her a new pack-and-play(yay!), and pillow that lights up stars on the ceiling. That has been a HUGE hit. Mia especially enjoyed eating the bits of wrapping paper before I could get them away....over and over and over again :) Later in the evening on Christmas day we went over to the DeKortes to do some exchanging there. She got lots of new toys and books and jammies and cute stuff. She has just been so much fun to watch as she explores each new thing. Her curiosity brings more joy to my heart than I ever thought possible.
Amelia's birthfamily also played a special role in her first Christmas. Not only in helping us create The Perfect Setup for telling Meri about our visit, but in their thoughtfulness as well. They sent a LittlePeople Manger set that has literally been the thing she has played with every single day since receiving it. There is a little brown calf and she carries it around everywhere and loves it best of all. It's been such a hit with her older cousins Alison and Michael that Brads parents bought their own set so Amelia's pieces wouldn't get lost or broken and plus they had never seen one before and thought it was the best ever. They also sent socks that say, Note to Self: I am a blessing.
What a truth! I couldn't agree more.
Love you, Baby Girl.
